What is harder to believe is that Heroin was advertised as a main ingredient in Bayer’s product along with aspirin. Some other vintage medicine advertisements were included for the sheer comedic value they impart, such as the Vibra-Finger, Stoner Placebo Capsules and Gingervating Ginger Ale. I’m not sure what confuses or offends me more, the fact this vintage ad is trying to say cigarettes are a treatment for whooping cough or they have a man in black face tying to convince me. If we ever do a racist vintage ads list, this ad can do double duty there as well.

I love Coca-Cola, most people to, but I’m a bit suspicious of Coca-cola’s motives when a nurse is trying to serve it to me and tell me it has health benefits. Delicious? Yes! Wholesome? Um, not so much.

This top 10 picture list was inspired by this list, Top 10 Birds That Could Kick Your Ass! While our feathered friend, the seagull, made that list, this bird also appears numerous times in the photographs below. I don’t know the photographer’s name, but I appreciate his courage. You can find more pictures at the photographer’s livejournal page, virako4a. Even though the photography is crisp, the idea is what captures my imagination and let’s it…um…take flight. The birds are captured in a still-life moment, both flying and suspended in time at the same time. Different birds make for interesting subject matter and even though I don’t know the names they are beautiful in their own right, whether small or large, bright colored or dark colored. You have to love the creative mind that can go to the park for a day and come back with a portfolio of avian images that are dramatic and beautiful. Even the mundane becomes startling in the right mind’s eye.

Wonderful photographs of animals and humans interacting without violence, just good-natured begging and panhandling. I really admire these pictures and look forward to seeing more from this talented photographer.

Every artist likes their canvas at a particular size; they have a comfort level with small, medium, large and even building-sized canvases for street artists. But what happens when the artist takes their art to the world, literally! Landscape artist Andreas Amador uses a canvas that exceeds football fields in terms of size. He uses beaches, or rather than sand on the beach as his medium. His extremely large drawings and pictures feature patterns that you might easily find in a much smaller zen garden. His patterns and shapes are both geometric and organic, sometimes using the topical landscape to help him sculpt his art. While his landscape art is impressive and beautiful it is also fleeting. Rarely does his work last more than a few hours and wind and tide erase his artwork and leave him a bland canvas for his next seaside artwork.
